“We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.” Martin Luther King quotation. Invitation to read and translate Learner.
About 70 millions psychopaths and 210 million sociopaths subsist in the world today. Whenever civilization falters, they take over and wreak automatic havoc on innocent strangers who would reflexively look after one another in their absence. What responsibility has a brilliant minority of them held for the persistent lies, cruelty and hypocrisy of day-to-day politics that we the conscience-driven despise in overwhelming numbers? How have one percent and three percent of humanity, bereft of the moral conscience the rest of us take for granted, distorted our values enough to militarize five thousand years of world history and make World Peace not only impossible in practice but “utopian” in theory? Why should we submit any longer to their dismal science and disastrous outcomes?
Hitler understood that a new ideology needs a simple message that everybody can understand and agree with. He stipulated that it requires step-by-step development. His intent was toxic; ours could be much more benign. The political mechanism lends itself just as easily to be used or abused. Also, great open-mindedness is essential for an honest reading of Learner, begin.
We are trained as children against peace. Once Learners admit this fact and resist it conscientiously, the gates to PeaceWorld will open wide.
Why are we in this mess?
We need a whole new political vocabulary. Our range of topics will be encyclopedic and our first treatment of them, insolently superficial and subject to mythic dismissal at every page turn.
Do we share a collective superconscience? Have we polluted it with violence? Could we fill it with Peace?
Darwinian selection for better military states. Leadership in its weapon and peace contexts.
Innate human evil or ultimate good? Nature, nurture and other good things.
Pick your constellation of political metaphors: historically conformist or dreaming of tomorrow. You choose.
Are we too cooperative or too competitive? Why?
Wars are not open and shut, warfare is eternal. Those who resist it the most effectively, perish most quickly.
The science and craft of warfare in history and the present.
Sacrifice or celebration? Weapons religions promote sacrifice; peace religions, celebration. We should be celebrating Learning, not sacrificing victims.
Jesus never used the word Rapture; it is found nowhere in the Bible. Christ forbids Christians to pray in church and in public. See for yourself in Matthew 6-5. What are ‘Christian’ fundamentalists up to: flouting His direct instruction, leading the faithful astray, turning the uncertain away in disgust and thus perverting Christianity?
What made perennial peasants and nobles revere those heretics instead of their fully mature Catholic clergy? Could we imitate the Cathari model with greater success and summon the best out of every creed, once and for all? Contrary to the countless claims of weapon mythology, governance and religion are inseparable, whether for good or for ill.
My attempt to reclaim the Cathari catechism suppressed during the start-up phase of the Inquisition. In imitation of the Tibetan and Egyptian Books of the Dead, it is an invocation to quit the Wheel of Desire and Death, reincarnate in Christ’s lifeline instead, and then go to Heaven with him that very afternoon.
Identity, conflict and community. Adherents of different identity positions could turn into Learners and this shared identity could shield them from human rights abuse. Identity politics is so corrosive, it poisons progress. Homogenous elites, united across every divide of these politics, thrive. Regardless of our origin or preference, we are all Learners.
Our constellation of political metaphors is chock-full of weapon myths. What if we replaced them with Peace equivalents?
A list of suggested does and don’ts (at least not too often).
The Syndrome: government is bad; let’s make it slow and stupid. The cure: government is as good or bad as the nearest Mayor’s office. See to it that every one of them is improved, more often than not.
His social contract lacked the consideration (legal term) that would have triggered and guaranteed it: World Peace. Rousseau’s genius failed to recognize the limits of communications during his day. Those faulty communications cancelled the influence of his social contract on international relations. Using technologies that he lacked, we could reduce that cyclopean wall into a puff of air.
The fatal mistake of Marx. Describing information politics without the weapon/peace antinomy is like discussing orbital mechanics without invoking gravity. Marx’s obsession, economics, is just another sub-branch of info flow. That flow is infinitely renewable and exponentially profitable. It could be multiplied a thousand-fold once set to chaotic and anarchic dialog mode instead of centralized and government-promoting monolog mode much less productive. An untapped abundance resides there, which Marx ignored and Learners could liberate.
The development of the threat formula: Body Count times Distance over Time squared; instead of the armchair formula that accelerates thought (see below). Obsessive perfection of this formula subtracts wealth from much more profitable peace projects.
Walk a mile in the boots of the average grunt.
The links between crime, warfare and governance.
The two paths of Capitalism: the garden and the viral infection, and their outcomes.
America’s ultimate weakness and power. Action versus deliberation.
Among the best-preserved historical writings, only one out of ten authors survives and one out of ten of his works. Did you know that the Iliad and the Odyssey were actually two thirds of a trilogy?
More book burning up until now. The setting alight of books is omnipresent in history and sickeningly universal among adherents of every creed.
Are fascism and modern political philosophy too similar? Why?
The institution of righteousness. We have our precedent.
Failure to heed warnings until it is too late, per weapon mentality.
A partial list of lies by type. The big lie is the original reason I became involved in this project. How can elites lie so often, so consistently, so shamelessly and with such professional aplomb?
Weapon mentality is lethal by design. It cannot help itself; that is what is does best. If you seek a dog that bites, you’ve picked the perfect rottweiler. Pick a gentler pet.
How to make the leap from WeaponWorld to PeaceWorld.
Superficial growth with deep roots, explosive growth from shallow ones. Concerning deep roots and fruitful growth. The golden rule of human conscience versus the radioactive rule of tactical expediency.
The World Elephant is being run by a cockroach mind; its muscular power is out of balance with its neurological awareness. It wanders around blindly, breaks limbs and starves in the produce section of a grocery store. That is our world. Implant an elephant’s brain in the elephant and watch it dance. That Fantasia sequence would be our lifeline to PeaceWorld.
Modern education is about triage and restriction. Learner education would gift each child with at least one graduate degree by puberty: the way prodigal musicians benefit today. Accelerate info flow instead of rationing it. Turn the hierarchic ziggurat of education upside down, into a cornucopia of Learning: anarchistic but self-filtering for excellence.
The rules that regulate communications by means of a constellation of political metaphors. Free speech and profit centers. Grow more anarchistic dialog bandwidth and lower the frequency of official monolog.
Information handling by peace technology.
Taichi Sakaiya wrote about perceived abundance and the objective value judgments that arise from it, about dearth and the knowledge value judgments it induces. Suggested peace technology applications of knowledge-value that might balance affluence and poverty, objective value and knowledge-value.
Laocracy as a direct, proportional and perpetual referendum substitute for the indirect and sporadic service of representative democracy. A suggested architecture for the World Agora and its info politics on PeaceWorld. Pathocracy: WeaponWorld rule by sociopaths (see above).
For maximum justice.
How to list topics of passion and their adherents.
Some problems with large-scale governance.
Your picture is as valid as mine. Let’s build ours together.
On the benefits of extended travel.
Laughably unscientific speculations and outlandish hypotheses for your fireworks entertainment.
Peace technology applications of science and superstition. We have undergone a flat-line in truly creative science (marginal improvements and banging on things with bigger hammers) ever since the 50s. Untold scientific discoveries have been buried by corporate weapon science. We should anticipate a peace science renaissance.
A complementary aspect to his theory of evolution. Disease as a mechanism of evolution and of inter-Kingdom sex. Infection as a therapeutic tool.
Amer-Ind as a universal travelers’ language in addition to birth languages. On cultural ecology: its suffocation by corporate weapon culture and its appreciation on PeaceWorld.
On the fine art of verifaction: the search for truth on both sides of a conflict. On Islam. What if the two agreed perfectly?
Gandhi’s ideas on Satyagraha, conflict resolution and non-violence―gratefully lifted from Mark Juergensmeyer’s book.
A poem on Satyagraha and verifaction.
Try not to evaluate the economics of peace technology according to the econologic of weapon mentality. Weapon technologies are by nature anti-profit in the long run; peace technologies, if pursued with equivalent obsession, would be much more profitable and sustainable. This is the best solution to the problem of rising populations and diminishing resources.
What should we expect once we reach PeaceWorld?
Could we turn the Earth into a larger, improved model of Victorian England? The Earth as a squireship. Factory towns fringing Earth orbit instead of the sea. Outer space, the colonies?
Is the living voice of DNA that of the serpent of Eden, the devil? Or is it the Holy Spirit that Jesus left us as a Comforter, pending His return? DNA is very old and very wise; our souls are already saved. Why not tap into that titanic database to unearth answers to our worst problems? DNA in other incarnations has already survived them and turned them to advantage. Why not share them in the here and now?
More outlandish, pre-historic speculations for your dining and dancing pleasure.
There should be many more medics. Weapons impediments to public health, and peace technology applications to health care.
Alternative transportation hardware. The formal interdiction of nuclear war.
Good ecology as a constitutional right.
Urban renewal, urban forestry, tectonic remediation, covered cities, elevated walkways, solar power. Grass roots surveillance of large-scale activities.
The fine-tuning of human rights on PeaceWorld.
The best way would be as many of children and old folks as healthy and well cared for as possible—far fewer exceptions.
“The Constitution calls for a well-regulated militia,” … Harm Forces on PeaceWorld.
Convivencia, learning to live together. Urban design and environmental protections.
Be kind enough to translate favorite chapters of Learner into your own language, would you please? A more or less fatuous list of personal suggestions. How did I dare? Because my sister asked me. Make up your own!
Probably. Maybe not. So what? We are honor-bound to do our best, regardless of the likelihood of success or failure.
Sustainable development through peace technology, activism, social commentary, futurism, prophecy, politics, political theory, ecology and peace, idealism, urban renewal, global management, global federation, the world vision we lack.
Street litter is for a WeaponWorld hell, not the New Jerusalem of PeaceWorld. Litter control should become a sidewalk sport; it’s recycling, child’s play.
